Celebrating 10 Years of Writing!!

Hi Reader,

Ten years ago, I wrote my first novel, Pulling Me Back In. After querying it unsucessfully and setting it aside, I wrote what would become my debut, One Tough Cookie.

This year, I revisited that first novel, and I've finally figured out how to fix it! I'm amazed at how much I've grown as an author and how my writing journey has developed.

Ten years ago, I decided to stop looking for a job in Germany and follow a career in writing. Today, even though I've published a book, I feel like my author career is just beginning.

Thank you for being part of my journey. I hope you continue with me along this path for the next ten years and more. There are still many stories I want to tell.

As always, scroll down for updates and book recommendations.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. See you next year!

Take care,

Delise

Writing Update

  • Last month, I re-read my revised version of Pulling Me Back In. When I queried this book in 2016, I pitched it as women's fiction, but I've realized it works much better as a romance. I added the hero's POV and I'm really happy with how it turned out. But it needs a lot more work. I now have 11 pages of revision notes, and I'm really excited to implement them. The book is going to be so much better than I'd envisioned! Stay tuned for more updates about this next year.
  • This month, I plan to write a holiday romance novella. I had the idea years ago, and I'm finally going to write it. I want it to be cozy and fun, which will be a huge challenge for me since my stories tend to have a lot of conflict and drama. I'll let you know how it went on the next newsletter. Wish me luck!

Life Update

  • My foot is much better. It turns out all I needed was more muscle training. I had been protecting it too much.
  • I watched With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration with my daughter and loved it! It's so cozy and warm, perfect for this time of year. I enjoyed the focus on not stressing out too much about being the perfect hostesss or giving the best gifts but on simple things that everyone can do to make your loved ones feel special. It's a great reminder of what the holidays should be.

Holiday Book Recommendations

  • Amor Actually by Various Latine Authors - this is a short story anthology inspired by the movie Love, Actually. It was really fun to see how each author gave their own spin to the different romances in the movie. If you're a fan of the movie, this book is for you! Note that some of the stories are very spicy!
  • Just for the Holidays by Adriana Herrera - this is a second chance romance between a casting director and an actor. They're snowed-in and pretty soon, sparks fly!
  • Under the Meh-stletoe by Leonor Soliz - this is a slow-burn romance set in a small town. The protagonists are stuck together planning the town's holiday celebrations. It's sweet, spicy, and full of those cozy holiday feels!
  • 26 Ways to Come Home for the Holidays by Jennifer Joy - this story is set in 1942 during Thanksgiving. Employees at Hanover's Department Store have to pitch in to finish decorating the store's windows. I loved the historical details and the friends-to-lovers romance.

Hi Reader, Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to 2026. As I looked back at 2025 and my 10 years of being a writer, I realized that 2026 will mark 10 years since I started my author platform. While I wrote my first novel in 2015, it wasn't until 2016 that I went public with my new author persona. I launched my website and this newsletter, telling friends and family members to subscribe. I also joined my first social media platform as an author, Twitter,...

Hi Reader, I hope you enjoyed your summer and were able to relax and rejuvenate! My summer can be summed up in three words: reading, writing, and relaxing. I spent a relaxing week on the German island of Sylt, taking in the sights. My reading inspired me to dust off an old manuscript and take another shot at fixing it. Scroll below to learn more about that manuscript, see photos of Sylt, and the books I read. Until next month! Take care, Delise Torres Puerto Rican Author and Book Coach...

Hello Reader, Two years ago on July 18, I became a traditionally published author for the first time. I'd been working toward this goal for 8 years, first with a novel I had to shelve after querying it unsuccessfully, and then by writing a new book, which ultimately became my debut, One Tough Cookie. Me at Marina Square in Fort Pierce, Florida where Karina and Ian have their first date. I got to visit it for the first time in 2023 with a copy of my book. It was surreal to be in the same place...
